Walk and Talk Therapy
"In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” John Muir
Zoryana Kakhnovets offers walk and talk counseling services. Instead of a telehealth session, the therapist and client or couple go on a walk outside in lovely Charleston, South Carolina.
What is Walk and Talk Therapy?
Welcome to a new way of thinking about therapy, where conversations happen in nature, and healing occurs gradually. It combines the traditional method of talk therapy with walking in an outdoor environment. Sessions begin with the client and therapist meeting at a pre-arranged outdoor location, often discussed during the initial intake session. As they walk side by side, they engage in meaningful conversations, surrounded by the calming influence of nature.
What Benefits of Walk and Talk Therapy?
Everyone is unique, so what works for one person might not work for another, and that’s perfectly fine. This is why various therapeutic approaches exist—allowing us to find the ideal match. Walk and Talk Therapy can help improve sleep, relieve stress, help with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, emotional regulation, and the ability to cope with life transitions. It also fosters the mind-body connection and encourages creative and deeper thinking, often boosted by the mood-enhancing effects of physical activity.
Additionally, it promotes mindfulness—connecting with nature helps calm the mind and stay focused on the present moment.
Before starting Walk and Talk Therapy, there are some key factors to keep in mind.
Privacy is crucial in therapy, but walking outdoors naturally offers less privacy than a therapy office. Zoryana, as your therapist, will do everything possible to maintain your confidentiality during these outdoor sessions, but it’s something to be aware of.
Additionally, you may not always feel up for walking, and that’s perfectly fine. You aren’t required to walk during every session—factors like your energy, the weather, or other reasons may influence this. Walk and Talk Therapy is just one option in your therapeutic toolbox, to be used when it feels appropriate. Your therapist will help you determine if this approach fits your needs best.
